Himachal Pradesh Plans for International Airport and Heli Taxi Services

Though things are still at the preparation and organizing stage, plans are inching towards finalization for development of an international airport near Shimla, the tourist hill town, well-known as Queen of Hills in Himachal Pradesh.

About 200 bighas of land have already been identified at three places in Shimla and Solan district, and a final decision will be announced soon.

The state has many other ambitious air borne plans including starting heli taxi services by December 2011. Also the number of helipads in the state will be increased to 70, with new ones to be set up in Sirmour, Mandi and Kinnaur districts.

With a mountainous terrain, plans are also there to connect all tourist and religious places in the state by ropeways.

In order to give a further boost to tourism Himachal Pradesh state government will put up a request to the Railway Ministry to start heritage trains on UNESCO listed World Heriatge Sites such as Shimla-Kalka and the Pathankot-Joginder Nagar railway lines.

The Himachal Pradesh government has lately started participating in many domestic and international tourism festivals to promote the state’s multi cultural offerings to interested tourist. The state had just held an exhibition in Delhi, promoting tourism in Himachal Pradesh including state handicrafts and cuisines.
