Departing San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

Taking BART to San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is the low cost, convenient and stress-free way to go for Bay Area residents and visiting friends:

  • BART takes you directly into the International Terminal at SFO
  • The travel time ranges from 15 minutes (Millbrae) to 90 minutes (Pittsburg/Bay Point)
  • You can relax on the train and not worry about traffic or paying bridge tolls
  • BART gets better mileage than cars and vans and is environmentally friendly
  • BART Airport/Long Term parking is only $5 to $6 per day, depending on what station is used for parking.
  • And the cost is hard to beat:
When you arrive at the BART station in SFO's International Terminal, take the AirTrain Red Line to Terminal 1, 2 or 3 for domestic flights. You can also walk to Terminal 1 or 3 in 5 to 10 minutes. International passengers should exit the train and walk to the front of the station. The international flight check-in counters are a very short walk from the BART station mainentrance.

BART Tickets

Children 4 and under ride free. Everyone else must have a BART ticket. BART tickets are like debit cards with stored value. All BART stations have automatic ticket vending machines that accept nickels, dimes, quarters and $1 coins, as well as $1, $5, $10 and $20 bills. You can also use a credit card in select machines. BART's fare structure is built on a mileage-based formula therefore weekly or monthly passes are not available.

When you enter BART, insert your ticket into the fare gate and it will be returned to you. Use the same ticket when you exit. The correct fare will be automatically deducted and tickets with remaining value will be returned. If your ticket has too little value, a sign on the fare gate will read "Underpaid: Go to Addfare." A nearby Addfare vending machine will tell you how much additional fare you must add to your ticket to exit the BART system.

BART Schedule

BART has one of the highest on-time performance records in the nation, but to be prudent you should give yourself a little extra time in case you miss a transfer or an unanticipated delay occurs. Visit the BART QuickPlanner to look up BART times and use the convenient printable schedule version to take a copy with you.

BART Weekday Service Hours
4:09 a.m. to 11:45 p.m.

BART Weekend Airport Service Hours
Sat: 5:54 a.m. to 11:45 p.m.
Sun: 8:00 a.m. to 11:45 p.m.

Please make alternative airport travel plans if this schedule conflicts with early morning weekend flights.

Luggage:
Please keep the aisles clear by storing your luggage under your seat or holding it on your lap. Some cars have space cleared by the doors to accommodate wheelchairs, bikes or strollers. If the space is not being used by a person with a disability, you may store your luggage there, but please keep it within your control at all times.

BART Accessibility

All BART stations are accessible to persons with disabilties. Elevators and fare gates designated for persons with disabilties may also be used by airline passengers with luggage.

Airport/Long Term Parking

Airport parking can be a hassle and is always expensive, except at BART. We offer very inexpensive long-term parking at many stations with easy online reservations. Visit the Long-term Parking section for more information.
