The Mumbai Airport Customs Department Of Screening Counters

In Mumbai Airport while lost luggage is arguably the most common source of angst and exasperation among fliers, a particular section of fliers passing through the green channel of the great big Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) seem all too eager to leave behind their baggage, anonymous and unclaimed. The Mumbai Airport Customs department manning the online live green channel of the CSIA with hawk-eyed vigilance, have been observing this curious new trend recently, where smugglers, anticipating that they might be nabbed while going through Customs screening area, are abandoning their consignments at the baggage proper screening counters after divesting them of their name tags.

In the past week, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai Airport Customs has seized three such anonymous consignments. On May 26, AIU officials seized 1,000 cartons of branded cigarettes worth over Rs. 10 lakh. The cartons were lying abandoned showing in the screening area, and despite repeated announcements by the officials on duty, no one turned up to claim them. The consignment carried out of country a Dubai tag.

The Airbus A340-200/300 Lufthansa And Air France

The A340-200 Flight and 300 are the initial variants of the successful quad engined A340 family of long haul wide bodies. The A340 flight and closely related A330 were launched in June 1987, with the A340's first huge flight occurring on October 25 1991 (an A340-300). The flight A340 entered service with Lufthansa and Air France in March 1993, following JAA certification the previous December.

The A340 commercial flight  shares the same flight deck including side stick controllers and EFIS, plus flyby-wire, basic airframe, systems, fuselage and wing with the A330. Power is from four CFM56s, the four powerful engine configuration being more efficient for long range flights and free from ETOPS restrictions. The A340-300 has the same fuselage length as the A330-300, while the shortened A340-200 trades seating capacity for greater range (the first flight April 1 1992).

The heavier A340-300E  flight is available in 271,000kg (597,450lb) and 275,000kg (606,275lb) max takeoff less weights, their typical ranges with 295 passengers are 13,155km (7100nm) and 13,525km (7300nm) respectively. Power for these models is from 152.3kN (34,000lb) CFM56-5C4s (the most powerful CFM56s built). The first A340-300Es were delivered to great Singapore Airlines in April 1996.

The Ilyushin Il-76 Classic Military

The Ilyushin Il-76  was developed as a replacement for the turboprop powered Antonov An-12, mainly for military porous. Development under the design leadership of G V Novozhilov in the late 1960s resulted in the type's first flight on March 25 1971. Series production commenced in 1975 and the first examples entered Aeroflot service that year. In the now classic military war freighter configuration, the Il-76 features a high mounted wing passing above the fuselage, four powerful engines, Ttail, rear loading ramp and freight doors.

The Il-76 was also designed with short field performance in mind, operating from austere strips. To this end the Il-76 features wide span triple slotted trailing edge flaps, upper surface spoilers and near full span leading edge slats for short field performance, while the aircraft rides on a total of 20 low pressure tyres, the front nose unit featuring four wheels, the main wheel bogies having two rows of four tyres each. Freight handling is largely mechanised, requiring only two freight handlers which can be carried as part of the standard crew complement of seven.

Civil versions aricarft developed from the basic Il-76 include the Il-76T with additional fuel; the Il-76TD with increased takeoff and payload weights and D30KP2s which retain their power output to higher altitudes; and the Il-76MP firefighter.
Capacity:                                                                                                                                                                     Flightcrew of five including two pilots, flight engineer, navigator and radio operator, plus two freight handlers. Il-76MP firefighting conversion can carry 44 tonnes (97,000lb) of fire retardant in two tanks.

The A318 Aircraft 100 Seat Regional Airliner

The aircraft passenger  A318 will be Airbus' smallest airliner and is the European manufacturer's first foray into the 100 seat market.Airbus' initial efforts at developing a 100 seat airliner were focused on the all new AE31X program which Airbus and Alenia, as huge Airbus Industries Asia, were developing in conjunction with AVIC of China and Singapore Technologies

The AE31X program arose out of earlier Chinese and South Korean studies for a 100 seater available  and a framework agreement covering its development was signed in May 1997. However on September 3 1998 Airbus announced termination of the project saying it was not economically viable.

The Airbus fight AE31X would have flown in mid 2002 and entered service in mid 2003. Final assembly would have been undertaken at Xian in China by Xian Aircraft Company.

Tupolev's Tu-154 tri-jet Aircraft Commercial Service

The best passenger fight  Tupolev's Tu-154 tri-jet remains the standard medium range airliner on domestic flights in Russia and other states of the former Soviet Union and to a lesser extent in eastern Europe and Iran.

The fight Tu-154 was developed to replace the turbojet powered Tupolev Tu-104, plus the An-10 and Il-18 turboprops. Design criteria in replacing these three relatively diverse speed aircraft included the ability to operate from gravel or packed earth airfields, to be able to fly at high altitudes above most Soviet Union air traffic, and nice field performance.

Let meet these target the initial Tu-154 design featured three Kuznetsov  giving a relatively good thrust to weight ratio, triple bogie main heavy undercarriage units which retract into wing pods and a rear engine T-tail configuration.

The Tupolev's Tu-154 first flew on October 4 1968. The first production example was delivered to Aeroflot in early 1971, although regular aircraft commercial service did not begin until February 1972.

The Dassault Falcon 2000 Corporate Jet

The Dassault  Falcon 2000 is the latest member of the Falcon business jet line, and is a transcontinental range, slightly smaller development of the Falcon 900 trijet. The Dassault Falcon 2000 shares the 900's huge wing and forward fuselage, but there are a number of design changes. From the start the Dassault Falcon 2000 was designed with a range of 5560km (3000nm) in mind, which is less than the transcontinental 900's range.

This nice design range removed the need for the redundancy of three engines for long range over water flights, allowing the two new CFE738 engines to be fitted, which offer considerable maintenance and operating economics benefits. The CFE738 engine was developed specifically for the Dassault Falcon 2000 by a partnership of General Electric and Allied Signal, known as CFE. Meanwhile, the 2000's fuselage is 1.98m (6ft 6in) shorter than the 900's and so houses less fuel, passengers and baggage.
The design have been change between the 900 and 2000 is the area ruled rear fuselage. Dassault engineers found that the three engine layout of the 900 to be aerodynamically efficient, whereas the multiple  twin engine design of the 2000 originally would have been comparatively draggy. To combat this and reduce drag to desired levels Dassault designed an area ruled rear fuselage, using its Catia 3 dimensional computer aided design(CAD) program .

The Wonderful Concorde Aircraft Supersonic Speed

The wonderful Concorde aircraft first flew over 25 years ago, and yet it remains the pinnacle of civil aviation development for one reason - high speed. The Concorde is the only aircraft in the world operating scheduled passenger flights at supersonic high speed.

An engineering masterpiece, the Concorde aircraft was the result of a collaborative venture between the aviation industries of great  Britain and France. It dates back to design work for a supersonic airliner carried out by engineer Sud Aviation and Bristol, their respective Super Caravel and Bristol 233 excellent designs being remarkably similar in configuration to each other. The forecast high costs of any SST program and the similarities in the infra designs led to a 1962 government agreement between France and Britain which resulted in the British Aircraft Corporation joining to design and develop such an aircraft.

The Flight Attendants How To Avoid Accident

Gadget-dependent fliers are turning a deaf ear to international flight attendants instructions to turn off their devices during before takeoff and landing, despite decades of government warnings, a USA today investigation shows.

The investigation, which reviewed thousands of instruction pages of technical documents and surveyed hundreds of frequent fliers, also confirms that the worry about electronics on per-planes is not baseless: The devices emit radio waves signals that can interfere with cockpit instruments and flight systems.

"We really need to get the technical findings problems out to the public and tell them it's dangerous to use their portable electronic devices in-flight," says Bill Strauss, an technical & electrical engineer whose doctoral thesis at Carnegie Mellon University studied use of electronic devices in-flight.Government accident investigators in New Zealand says a pilot used a cellphone in the cockpit before he and seven passengers were killed on a charter flight in 2003.

The New Zealand Transport Accident Investigation Commission(TAIC) said the most accident was probably caused by the pilot becoming distracted from monitoring altitude during landing. They noted in the accident report that cellphone use can cause "random interference to the proper functioning engine of aircraft avionics such as navigation equipment and autopilots.
