New airport explosive scanner tested

New technology is being tested at Melbourne Airport to see if it can improved detect liquid explosives.

The multi-view x-ray machines and scanners may remove the need for overseas travelers to throw out extra-large containers of liquids

Melbourne AirportThe anti-terrorism requirement has resulted in thousands of containers being thrown out each month.

Federal Transport Minister Anthony Albanese says he hope the new technology can improve the system.

"We really are just exploring whether this advanced technology has the potential to minimize the inconvenience, while not compromising on the high standards of aviation security," he said.

The two-week trial of the new technology starts at Melbourne Airport today and Sydney Airport next week.

28years old man arrested for airport hoax bomb call

The airport police under arrest a 28 years old man for allegedly making hoax calls about an imminent blast at the Bengaluru Airport. Basavaraja, alias Abdul Saleem of Sadashivanagar in Nelamanagala was taken into custody and his mobile phone used to make the call was detained.

Bangalore international airportThe police said that on November 8, a nameless person had made a phone call to the BIA and the airport police station, alerting them of a bomb blast in ten minutes in the airport in which hundreds of people will be killed. The police quick to the spot along with the dog squad.

After searching the entire airport they long established that it was a fake call to threaten the officials in the airport. More investigation revealed that the call was made from a mobile phone, and was intended to misguide the police.

The police exposed that Basavaraja was working as a daily wage labourer after quitting from a private company. He had converted to Islam after he married a Muslim girl.

A year ago, on November 20, he made a similar hoax call to Bengaluru Airport and was under arrest and later released on bail. The DCP Ravikanthe Gowda said Basavaraja had a habit of making similar hoax calls. He has been produced in Devanahalli court and taken into police custody for additional investigation.
